What is Sleep Dentistry?

Sleep dentistry uses safe, carefully monitored sedation to help you feel calm and comfortable during dental treatment. Your options range from oral relaxant medication and happy gas (nitrous oxide) through to IV sedation and general anaesthesia, so you receive just the level of relaxation you need.

At Moonee Ponds Smiles, sleep dentistry allows nervous patients to receive the care they need without fear, and lets us complete longer or more complex treatments comfortably, often in fewer visits. Where suitable, sedation can also be used for children.

Why Choose Us?

Our caring team has extensive experience helping anxious and phobic patients feel safe and supported, so you can finally get the dental care you have been putting off.

Every option is carried out by experienced, appropriately trained clinicians with careful monitoring throughout for your safety and comfort. We will discuss the risks, benefits and what to expect so you can make an informed choice, and for general anaesthesia some fees may be partially covered by Medicare and private health funds.

Who is a good candidate?
  • Dental anxiety, fear or phobia

  • A strong gag reflex

  • Difficulty getting numb with local anaesthetic alone

  • Long or complex treatments

  • Patients with special needs

  • Anyone wanting to complete several treatments in one comfortable visit
